COGS Starts the Year Off Right!

The start of Fall term seems to breathe new life into campus as we welcome back our returning students, and the College of Graduate Studies (COGS) recently welcomed about 800 new graduate students to The University of Toledo.  Over the past two weeks, COGS had the opportunity to assist hundreds of new students in their transition to graduate programs. Below are just a few of the events designed to help our students start the year off right.

Graduate Student Orientation

COGS held two orientation programs last week: one program for Main Campus (MC) students, and one for Health Science Campus (HSC) students. During these face-to-face orientation programs, over 600 of our new students received information on campus resources, heard tips on how to be successful in graduate school, and learned skills that will help them develop both personally and professionally.  Since many graduate students are also working professionals, COGS captured the orientation programs so another 250 students will ‘attend’ orientation online.

Teaching Assistant Training

The Teaching Assistant (TA) Training program was held on Thursday, August 15th and provided additional training to over 150 students who have received teaching assistantships through their department. Information was provided to new TAs on topics such as getting started in the classroom, creating an inclusive classroom, dealing with academic dishonesty and accessibility resources.

Graduate Student Association Picnic

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is hosting a picnic this Friday, August 23rd from 5-7pm in Swan Creek Metropark. The picnic will help to kick off the new academic year and to provide information about the important  role that the GSA plays here at UT.  More information may be found on the GSA website: http://utoledogsa.com/.

Go Rockets!
